In
Egyptian mythology,
Aker was a god of the
earth and of the dead. He is the guardian of the gate to the
underworld. He is often symbolized by a small piece of land, one end of which is the head of a
human, and the other a
lion; he is also symbolized by a pair of lions facing opposite directions.
He is attended by a group of gods called the Akeru.
