6 FT MAN

6 FT MAN is a short silent art film[?] conceived and directed by composer/writer Justin Weaver; with cinematography and editing by composer Mark-David Hosale; and further technical contributions from John Thompson, Scott Perry[?] and Lisa Surynt[?]. 6 FT MAN was produced and filmed in Santa Barbara, California, with location shots in Isla Vista and UCSB.

The film is a postmodern deconstruction of the visual semantics of perspective[?], location and identity. The character of 6 FT MAN is derived from the two-dimensional[?] cutout figure of a six foot man at the Santa Barbara Zoological Gardens[?]. The cutout is intended to provide viewers perspective[?] in evaluating the height of elephants and giraffes in terms of the height of human beings. The generic quality of the six foot male cutout is taken as the basis for a variety of visual and conceptual explorations of pan-human themes in the course of the 16-minute film.

The film was originally shown with live piano accompaniment[?] in the manner of a traditional silent film. The music was improvised by director Justin Weaver and further deconstructed the thematic elements of the film. In subsequent performances in the absence of a piano, a techno background score was provided by Mark-David Hosale.
