Z (movie)

The film Z is a 1969 political thriller directed by Constantin Costa-Gavras. The movie presents a fictionalized account of the events surrounding the assassination of democratic Greek politician Grigoris Lambrakis in 1963. With its satirical view of Greek politics, its dark sense of humor, and its chilling ending, the movie captures a sense of outrage about the dictatorship that was ruling Greece at the time the picture was made.

Based on a novel by Vassilis Vassilikos[?], it was nominated for a large number of awards, including an Oscar for Best Picture and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Languge Picture, and was named best picture by the New York Film Critics Circle Awards[?] and National Society of Film Critics Awards[?]. The film also was also nominated for a Golden Palm[?] award at the Cannes film festival.

The film stars Yves Montand and Jean-Louis Trintignant.
