Wikipedia:100,000th article

In search of the 100,000th article! This page was created in the hope that we can determine the exact article that is our 100,000th one. This won't be easy since the New "articles" list includes non-articles that happen to be in the article namespace.

Some questions to ponder:

  1. Who will be the one creating this article? Will it be a Wikipediaholic, a newer user or an anonymous IP?
  2. What will be the subject of this article? Will the subject be a serious one, brilliant prose, a random cartoon character, or goatse insanity?
  3. When will this article be created?
  4. How will this article compare in quality to what we expect?

Evidence suggests that the 100,000th article was, in fact, Hastings, New Zealand, posted at 03:36 on Tuesday 21 January 2003 by Lisiate. The article describes the user's old home town. This pushed the counter up to the 100,000 mark, although subsequent deletions of older articles have affected the article count. Which is the 100,000th article still extant is liable to change repeatedly as old articles are deleted, and is therefore probably not very interesting, even as a piece of trivia. Although, having said that, at the time of writing this, it is Machine vision by Rethunk, started at 05:30 the same morning! (That is, assuming that none of the subsequent new pages are non-articles, which may not actually be true.)
