Gaius Julius[?] Vindex was a Roman governor in the province of Gallia Lugdunensis (modern Brittany, Normandy and the area around Paris) who rebelled against the EmperorNero in 67 AD. Although he was defeated and killed by the loyal general Lucius Verginius Rufus[?] in 68, Vindex' rebellion was the start of a series of uprisings against the tyrannical emperor which resulted in Nero's deposition and suicide that summer.
