Rabbi Menachem Mendel

The first Rabbi Menachem Mendel 1789 - 1866 of the Chabad Lubavitch Orthodox hasidic Judaism movement was the third Rebbe of the Chabad dynasty.

He was also known as the Tzemach Tzedek (Righteousness Sprouts) ,the name for a voluminous compendium of Jewish halakha that he authored. He also authored Derech Mitzotecha (Way of Your Commandments), a mystical exposition of Jewish law.

He was the grandson of the first Chabad Rebbe , Rabbi Shneur Zalman , and became the son-in-law to the second Rebbe , Rabbi Dovber .

The last and seventh Chabad Lubavitch Rebbe , Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson was a sixth in direct paternal line from this prior third Rebbe called "Menachem Mendel' , and was named for him.
