Tycho

Tycho is a large, prominent crater on the near side of Earth's Moon. It is located at 43 deg S, 11 deg W and is 85 km diameter. Its size is not its most significant distinguishing feature, however, but rather the fact that it is surrounded by vast radial pattern of "rays", streaks of bright material blasted out of the crater by the impact that formed it. It is a young crater, perhaps 50 million years old.

Tycho is named after the astronomer Tycho Brahe. It was visited by the unmanned probe Surveyor 7 in 1968.
