Twilight Club

The Twilight Club is an organization founded in the late 19th century, with the intention to counter the moral decline by bolstering up the spiritual and ethical awareness of the society. Illustrous members were Ralph Waldo Emerson, Herbert Spencer, Walt Whitman, Andrew Carnegie, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Mark Twain. The name of the club refers to their meetings at the twilight of the day, but also to the evening twilight of the 19th century and the dawn of the 20th century. From this club, service clubs such as the Rotary Club[?] and the Lions evolved at a later stage.
