Tuner

Tuner is an electronic device that can receive radio broadcasts by adjusting the resonant frequency of its circuitry to match the frequency of the radio carrier.

In many contexts, tuner can also refer to the actual component doing the same task. In hi-fi terminology, a receiver is an amplifier integrated with a tuner, and these two functions need not be built together.

Audiophiles and FM DXers prefer tuners over receivers[?] for the increased sound quality and versatility that comes with being built as a separate product.

A tuner is also a professional who adjusts the pitch of musical string instruments such as pianos. Electronic devices that do much the same thing exist as well, mainly for guitars.
