Industrial and agricultural town and largest town in the Latrobe Valley[?]. The other important towns in the Latrobe valley are Moe[?] and Morwell ??? Combined population about 70000

Industry:

Brown coal mining.
Loy Yang Power stations (Huge Brown coal[?] burning power stations)
Dairy
Paper Mill

Before the mining this was a picturesque agricultural town. The lignin decompositon lakes at the local paper mill also cause a serious problem of smell when there is a prevailing westerly wind.

There has been a recent problem with mesothelioma[?] due to asbestos lagging used in some of the old power stations (now demolished).
