Tivoli, Italy

Tivoli (population 55,000) is an ancient Italian town some 20 km from Rome (Latium), along the Aniene[?].

During the Roman Age, named Tibur, it gained a certain importance, also being on the way that Romans had to follow to the mountain regions on the Apennines[?].

It became a residential area and was enriched by Roman villas like Villa Adriana[?] (Hadrian's Villa).

It is the most important center for the production of Travertine, a particular white calcium carbonate rock which most of Roman monuments were made of.
