The Old Bailey

The Central Criminal Court, universally known as The Old Bailey, is a Crown Court[?] (criminal high court) based in London, dealing with severe cases in the U.K.. It stands on the site of the mediaeval Newgate Gaol[?]. The present building dates from 1907. The Old Bailey is where Sir John Mortimer, the real life author of the fictional character Horace Rumpole[?] of Rumpole of the Bailey[?] practiced as a barrister.
