The More the Merrier

The More the Merrier is a 1943 comedy film which makes fun of the World War II time housing shortage, especially in Washington, D.C.. A young woman sublets half of her tiny apartment to a middle aged man, who promptly sublets half of his half to a young man. Romance ensues. It stars Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea[?], Charles Coburn[?] and Richard Gaines[?].

The movie was written by Richard Flournoy[?], Lewis R. Foster[?], Garson Kanin[?] (uncredited), Frank Ross[?] and Robert Russell[?]. It was directed by George Stevens.

It won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Charles Coburn) and was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Jean Arthur), Best Director, Best Picture, Best Writing, Original Story and Best Writing, Screenplay.
