The History of Middle-earth

The History of Middle-earth is a 12-volume series of books that collect and analyze material relating to the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, produced by his son Christopher Tolkien. They can be seen as the record of two magnificent literary obsessions: J. R. R. Tolkien's obsession with writing the tales of Middle-earth, and his son's obsession with documenting the process of that writing.
