Stokesay Castle

Stokesay Castle in Shropshire is the oldest fortified manor house[?] in England, and is in the care of English Heritage. Parts of this unusual-looking building date from the 12th century. The great hall was added in the 13th century. The castle’s most intriguing feature is the timber-framed residence built onto the outside of the walls. The gatehouse is also timbered.
