The racial makeup of the city is 35.78% White, 62.84% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 1.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
