Sri Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy (born 1931), né Chinmoy Kumar Ghose, is an Indian philosopher and religious teacher (guru). He was the youngest of seven children, born in Shakpura[?] in East Bengal (now Bangladesh), and moved to New York City in 1964. He now lives in Jamaica[?] in Queens County, New York. In 1944, after both his parents had died, 12-year-old Chinmoy entered the Sri Aurobindo ashram[?], a spiritual community near Pondicherry in South India. Here he spent the next twenty years in spiritual practice. For a while, he was an interfaith chaplain at the United Nations. As with many spiritual leaders, there are allegations that his group is a cult organization.
