Special Olympics

Special Olympics is an international organization started by Eunice Kennedy Shriver which helps people with learning disabilities to develop self confidence through sports training and competition. Over one million athletes are involved in more than 150 countries.

The Special Olympics Oath is "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."

Like the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the Special Olympics World games are held every four years. The last summer games[?] were held in Dublin, Ireland from June 20-29, 2003, and were the first time the games were held outside the USA. The Special Olympics World Winter Games[?] will be held in Nagano, Japan, between February 26-March 5, 2005. The first International Special Olympics Games (as they were known at the time) were held in Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 1968.
