South Wayne is a village located in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 484.

Geography South Wayne is located at 42°34'3" North, 89°52'41" West (42.567584, -89.878131)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 484 people, 203 households, and 126 families residing in the village. The population density is 236.5/km² (612.5/mi²). There are 218 housing units at an average density of 106.5/km² (275.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 99.59% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 203 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% are non-families. 33.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the village the population is spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 96.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $30,909, and the median income for a family is $41,944. Males have a median income of $24,750 versus $22,188 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,631. 9.0% of the population and 7.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.6% are under the age of 18 and 15.0% are 65 or older.
