A
sonogram is a three-dimensional diagram of a speech signal. One axis shows
time, the second
frequency and the third
intensity. Often the diagram is reduced to two dimensions by indicating the intensity with thicker lines or more intense colors or grey values. Sonograms are used to identify
phonetic sounds, and to analyse the cries of animals. The instrument that generates a sonogram is called a
sonograph[?].
