The business founded on Sven Wingquist's[?] 1907 patent was successful from early on, and by 1910 the company had 325 employees, a daughter-company in the USA and was established in several countries. In 1912 SKF was represented in 32 countries. By 1930, 21,000 employees (66% outside Sweden) were working in 12 factories.
SKF was the mother company of Volvo which was made a separate company in 1935.
Today, the company has about 40 000 employees world-wide. Year 2001 turnover was 43 038 MSEK. The SKF Group now consists of about 150 companies.
Since the start, company headquarters have been located in Gothenburg.
