Sharpes is a town located in Brevard County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,415.

Geography Sharpes is located at 28°26'29" North, 80°45'40" West (28.441281, -80.761019)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 16.3 km² (6.3 mi²). 7.7 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 52.46% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,415 people, 1,478 households, and 947 families residing in the town. The population density is 442.5/km² (1,144.7/mi²). There are 1,680 housing units at an average density of 217.7/km² (563.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 91.92% White, 3.54% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 2.31% from two or more races. 2.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,478 households out of which 23.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 28.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.77.

In the town the population is spread out with 21.4% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $27,692, and the median income for a family is $33,825. Males have a median income of $27,500 versus $19,231 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,039. 18.7% of the population and 12.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.1% are under the age of 18 and 14.8% are 65 or older.
