Shamrock

The shamrock is a three-leaved clover, Trifolium repens[?]. According to what the Oxford English Dictionary calls "a late tradition", the plant was used by Saint Patrick to illustrate the doctrine of the Trinity. It has subsequently become a national symbol of Ireland. The word comes from seamróg, the Irish name for the plant.

Shamrock can refer to several other things.

The cities of Shamrock, Texas and Shamrock, Oklahoma, as well as Shamrock Lakes, Indiana, and Mount Gay-Shamrock, West Virginia.

Shamrock Oil[?] Company
The ship MS Shamrock is a Swedish sailing ship. It is owned by the foundation Skeppsholmsgården. During the summer the ship goes out on two trips, one from Stockholm (its homeport) to Luleå or as far north in the Baltic that they'll get and one trip from Stockholm to Karlskrona or as far south they'll get in the Baltic.

The ship is a sailing school for sailors and others (between the ages of 15 and 20) in the art of old-school sailing but most of all in the art of getting along with other people. The driving force behind the project is Holger Rehnberg who bought the ship for the foundation, well over 30 years ago. The trips are an education in old-fashioned and new seamanship but most of all it is a school for life.
