Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 695 people, 300 households, and 183 families residing in the town. The population density is 260.5/km² (676.6/mi²). There are 338 housing units at an average density of 126.7/km² (329.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 27.48% White, 71.22% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 300 households out of which 28.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.7% are married couples living together, 23.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.7% are non-families. 36.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
