Satellite state
A Satellite state is a nation politically and economically dominated by another nation.
The expression was most commonly used to describe the Eastern European countries of the Warsaw pact, during the decades of cold war. These countries were tightly controlled politically by the Soviet Union (from 1945-1948 until 1989).
