Sargent County is a county located in the U.S. State of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 4,366. Its county seat is Forman6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,246 km² (867 mi²). 2,224 km² (859 mi²) of it is land and 22 km² (8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.96% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,366 people, 1,786 households, and 1,243 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (5/mi²). There are 2,016 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.24% White, 0.05% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,786 households out of which 30.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.00% are married couples living together, 3.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.40% are non-families. 27.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.50% under the age of 18, 5.30% from 18 to 24, 25.70% from 25 to 44, 25.70% from 45 to 64, and 16.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 110.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 110.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $37,213, and the median income for a family is $44,063. Males have a median income of $34,222 versus $19,844 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,689. 8.20% of the population and 6.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.90% are under the age of 18 and 11.80% are 65 or older.
