Salt of the Earth

Salt of the Earth is a 1954 film which tells the story of a strike by Mexican-American workers against the Empire Zinc Mine[?] in New Mexico, in large part in order to gain equity in wages versus Anglo workers at other mines. It stars Rosaura Revueltas[?], Will Geer[?], David Wolfe[?], Mervin Williams[?], David Sarvis[?], Juan Chacón[?], Henrietta Williams[?] and Ernesto Velázquez[?].

The movie was written by Michael Biberman[?] and Michael Wilson[?], and directed by Herbert J. Biberman[?].

This film was specifically banned in the United States by an act of the United States Congress for its supposed "Communist" sympathies. The fact that Herbert Biberman and Michael Wilson were members of the Hollywood Blacklist[?] may have had something to do with this. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
