Salford

Salford is a city (population 224,000) in Greater Manchester, in North West England, traditionally part of south east Lancashire. This city, which is close to the north side of Manchester, is well known for artist L.S. Lowry.

Salford was one of the UK's first industrial cities and gained status at the start of the industrial revolution

Albert Finney and Alistair Cooke were born in Salford. Other famous residents included Sir Ben Kingsley[?], Sir Jimmy Savile[?] and L.S. Lowry.

Salford is the setting of Wetherfield in Coronation street.

Salford University is one of 4 universities in Greater Manchester and has approximately 19,000 students.

Although Salford is a city within its own right, it is also a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester. Salford also contains the towns of Swinton[?], Eccles[?], Pendlebury[?], Broughton[?], Pendleton, Worsley[?], Walkden[?], Irlam[?], Cadishead[?], Wardley[?], Monton[?], Barton and Boothstown[?].
