Ruth Chatterton

Ruth Chatterton (December 24, 1893 - November 24, 1961) was an American actress. Born in New York City, she was on Broadway by the age of 14 as a dancer. Her first film was Sins of the Fathers[?] in 1928. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for two films -- Madame X in 1929 and Sarah and Son in 1930.

Chatterton's last film was A Royal Divorce[?] in 1938, although she did appear on television in 1953 to play Gertrude in Hamlet, with Maurice Evans[?].

Having left acting, she began a succesful writing career, producing several novels.

She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6263 Hollywood Blvd.
