Robeson County is a county located in the U.S. State of North Carolina. As of 2000, the population is 123,339. Its county seat is Lumberton6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,463 km² (951 mi²). 2,457 km² (949 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.23% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 123,339 people, 43,677 households, and 32,015 families residing in the county. The population density is 50/km² (130/mi²). There are 47,779 housing units at an average density of 19/km² (50/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 32.80% White, 25.11% African American, 38.02% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 2.26% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 4.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 43,677 households out of which 37.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.60% are married couples living together, 20.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.70% are non-families. 22.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.20.

In the county the population is spread out with 29.00% under the age of 18, 10.60% from 18 to 24, 29.30% from 25 to 44, 21.10% from 45 to 64, and 10.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 94.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $28,202, and the median income for a family is $32,514. Males have a median income of $26,646 versus $20,599 for females. The per capita income for the county is $13,224. 22.80% of the population and 19.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 30.00% are under the age of 18 and 25.30% are 65 or older.
