Elrod is a town located in Robeson County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 441.

Geography Elrod is located at 34°36'51" North, 79°14'27" West (34.614090, -79.240775)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 441 people, 159 households, and 110 families residing in the town. The population density is 32.0/km² (83.0/mi²). There are 164 housing units at an average density of 11.9/km² (30.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 8.62% White, 23.58% African American, 65.99% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.81% from two or more races. 3.85% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 159 households out of which 38.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 18.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% are non-families. 28.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.77 and the average family size is 3.45.

In the town the population is spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 81.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $18,125, and the median income for a family is $22,308. Males have a median income of $20,625 versus $19,125 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,079. 39.5% of the population and 27.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 57.3% are under the age of 18 and 52.2% are 65 or older.
