Riley P. Bechtel

Riley P. Bechtel is the chairman and CEO of the Bechtel Corporation. He is the great-grandson of Warren A. Bechtel, the founder of the company. His father is Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr.[?], the former chairman and CEO of the company. With a net worth of over $3 billion, Riley Bechtel is ranked as the 50th richest person in the U.S. and the 127th richest person in the world by Forbes Magazine. After obtaining his law degree and MBA from Stanford University, Bechtel worked for the law firm of Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges. He joined Bechtel full-time in 1981, was elected President and COO of Bechtel in March of 1989, and became CEO in June 1990. In January 1996, he also became the chairman of Bechtel.

Mr. Bechtel is a director of the following companies:

  • J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (since 1995)
  • The Fremont Group (owned by the Bechtel corporation)
  • Fremont Investors, Inc. (owned by the Bechtel corporation)
  • Sequoia Ventures, Inc. (owned by the Bechtel corporation)

He is also a member of the Trilateral Commission and has been appointed to the President's Export Council by George W. Bush.
