The Champ

The Champ is a 1931 movie that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It was written by Frances Marion[?], Leonard Praskins[?] and Wanda Tuchock[?], and directed by King Vidor.

The movie stars Wallace Beery (boxer) and Jackie Cooper (TJ), and tells the story of a washed up alcoholic boxer who tries to put his life together for the sake of his young son TJ.

Beery won the Oscar for Best Actor, and Marion for Academy Award for Writing Original Screenplay.

The movie was remade in 1952 as The Clown, and in 1979 with its original title.

The latter stars Jon Voight (boxer) and Ricky Schroder (born 1970, TJ).
