Richard Seddon

Richard John Seddon, popularly known as King Dick, became one of New Zealand's better-known Premiers/Prime Ministers.

Born in St Helens[?] in Lancashire, he emigrated to New Zealand and became a miner on the West Coast before entering politics. He succeeded to the leadership of the Liberal Party following the death of John Ballance (1893), and dominated New Zealand political life until his own death in office (10 June 1906).
