Rheingold Express

The legendary Rheingold-Express (Rhine Gold) was a train between Basel, Switzerland and Hoek van Holland near Rotterdam. It went along River Rhine via Cologne, Germany and Arnhem, Netherlands and had special luxury coaches. The trip took 11hrs when the train was introduced in 1928. Due to World War II the train service had to be cancelled. After the war a TEE[?] with the name "Rheingold" has been established again as a link between Switzerland and the Netherlands on the pre-war route. The train existed until 1987.
