Revolutionary Communist Party

The Revolutionary Communist Party of the United States of America (RCP, USA), known originally as the Revolutionary Union, is a radical political organization that was formed during a Chicago convention in 1969 as a Maoist splinter group of the Students for a Democratic Society (or "SDS"). Unlike SDS, which was committed to nonviolent civil disobedience by virtue of the principles set forth in the Port Huron Statement[?], the Revolutionary Union is much more prone to violence.

As a result of criminal indictments in 1981 stemming from a White House break-in, RCP National Chairman Robert Avakian[?] and other RCP leaders fled the United States and have been living in France and England ever since. The RCP remains active in both the United States and Western Europe. It is considered a very centralized and authoritarian group.

The RCP also has an international federation, the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement[?] (RIM), which includes the Communist Party of Peru[?] and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)[?].
