Ramsey County, North Dakota

Ramsey County is a county located in the U.S. State of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 12,066. Its county seat is Devils Lake6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,369 km² (1,301 mi²). 3,069 km² (1,185 mi²) of it is land and 301 km² (116 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.92% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 12,066 people, 4,957 households, and 3,187 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (10/mi²). There are 5,729 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.31% White, 0.21% African American, 5.40% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. 0.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,957 households out of which 29.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.80% are married couples living together, 8.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.70% are non-families. 31.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44, 22.30% from 45 to 64, and 18.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 97.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.40 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $35,600, and the median income for a family is $42,439. Males have a median income of $29,562 versus $18,629 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,060. 12.60% of the population and 8.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.90% are under the age of 18 and 8.00% are 65 or older.
