Rajiv Gandhi

Rajiv Gandhi, son of Indira Gandhi, was the Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He was assassinated in Madras by the Tamil Tigers on May 21, 1991 by a bomb hidden in a bouquet of flowers.

His death brought the ailing Congress Party back into power.

During his tenure as the Prime Minister of India, he brought a certain dynamism to the Prime Ministership, which had always been occupied by older people. He was instrumental in greatly improving ties with former USSR. He also brought computers to India.

However his regime was notorious has for the famous multi million dollar Bofors scandal with the Italian business man Quattrocchi[?].

He is survived by his wife Sonia Gandhi and two children Rahul Gandhi[?] and Priyanka Robert Gandhi[?]
