Quincy, Florida

Quincy is a city located in Gadsden County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,982. It is the county seat of Gadsden County6.

Geography Quincy is located at 30°35'7" North, 84°35'5" West (30.585281, -84.584702)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.8 km² (7.6 mi²). 19.7 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.13% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,982 people, 2,657 households, and 1,830 families residing in the city. The population density is 353.8/km² (916.4/mi²). There are 2,917 housing units at an average density of 147.8/km² (382.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 31.55% White, 64.15% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.22% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 6.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,657 households out of which 30.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.2% are married couples living together, 28.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 27.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 80.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $29,393, and the median income for a family is $31,890. Males have a median income of $27,871 versus $22,025 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,133. 19.1% of the population and 16.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 24.0% are under the age of 18 and 23.1% are 65 or older.
