Provinces of Finland

Finland consists of 6 provinces (lnit/ln), following a 1997 redesign that reduced their number from 12.

Provinces

  • land (Ahvenanmaan lni/lands ln)
  • Eastern Finland (It-Suomen lni/stra Finlands ln)
  • Lapland (Lapin lni/Lapplands ln, Spmi)
  • Oulu (Oulun lni/Uleborgs ln)
  • Southern Finland (Etel-Suomen lni/Sdra Finlands ln)
  • Western Finland (Lnsi-Suomen lni/Vstra Finlands ln)

The province of land enjoys a high degree of autonomy.

Each province has a State Provincial Office[?] (Lninhallitus/Lnsstyrelse) which is lead by a Governor (Maaherra/Landshvding).
