Post Falls, Idaho

Post Falls is a city located in Kootenai County, Idaho. It is a a town near the Idaho state line between Spokane, Washington, and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 17,247.

Post Falls is named for Frederick Post[?], who located there in 1871 to construct a sawmill[?] along the Spokane River[?].

Geography Post Falls is located at 47°42'56" North, 116°56'17" West (47.715552, -116.937926)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.1 km² (9.7 mi²). 25.0 km² (9.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.52% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 17,247 people, 6,369 households, and 4,668 families residing in the city. The population density is 689.3/km² (1,786.1/mi²). There are 6,697 housing units at an average density of 267.7/km² (693.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.13% White, 0.18% African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. 2.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,369 households out of which 40.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% are non-families. 20.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the city the population is spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $39,061, and the median income for a family is $42,758. Males have a median income of $32,284 versus $22,798 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,692. 9.4% of the population and 7.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.4% are under the age of 18 and 7.5% are 65 or older.
