Post-surrealism

Though the term post-surrealism has been coined to refer, literally speaking, to art movements occurring after surrealism, such as Pop Art and Op Art, surrealism is not an artistic movement, and continues to the present day, thus there can be no "post-surrealism". The term "post-surrealism" is also used to refer to tendencies in art related to or influenced by, or supposedly related to or influenced by surrealism, occurring after the alleged period of "historical surrealism" (this term has no real significance or precisely defined meaning) of c.1924-1945 or 1924-1966). Since surrealism is widely alleged to be "over", surrealism itself, when occurring in the "post-surrealist" era, is sometimes called "post-surrealism."
