Poor Righteous Teachers

The Poor Righteous Teachers are a trio of African American hip hop musicians, founded in 1989 (see 1989 in music) as a socially aware and devoutly Islamic group. Wise Intelligent[?], Culture Freedom[?] and Father Shaheed[?] released their first album, Holy Intellect[?], in 1990 (see 1990 in music), followed by Pure Poverty[?] the following year. Their follow-up and most successful released was 1993's Black Busines[?], which drew criticism for alleged homophobia. Their latest release is New World Order[?] (1996, see 1996 in music)
