Pictou County, Nova Scotia

Pictou County was established in 1835. The word "Pictou" is derived from the Mic Mac[?] word "Piktook" meaning an explosion of gas. The area which eventually became Pictou County was a part of Halifax County, Nova Scotia from 1759 to 1835.
