Peterborough (2001 population 71,446) is a city on the Trent River[?] in Ontario, Canada.

Peterborough was incorporated as a town in 1850 and as a city in 1905.

Manufacturing is the biggest local industry, with General Electric and Quaker Oats[?] maintaining large operations in Peterborough.

Peterborough is the home of Trent University.
