Pepin County, Wisconsin

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 644 km² (249 mi²). 602 km² (232 mi²) of it is land and 42 km² (16 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.59% water.

Demographics As of the census¹ of 2000, there are 7,213 people, 2,759 households, and 1,934 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (31/mi²). There are 3,036 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (13/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.90% White, 0.08% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,759 households out of which 32.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.90% are married couples living together, 6.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.90% are non-families. 26.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the county, the population is spread out with 26.50% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 101.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.20 males.
