Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 31,580 people, 10,876 households, and 8,874 families residing in the city. The population density is 524.0/km² (1,356.9/mi²). There are 11,313 housing units at an average density of 187.7/km² (486.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.66% White, 6.11% African American, 0.16% Native American, 3.70% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.92% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 3.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,876 households out of which 47.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.8% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.4% are non-families. 16.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.25.
