Patrick White

Patrick White (May 28, 1912 - 1990) was a novelist and the first Australian winner of the Nobel Prize in literature. White was born in London while his parents were on an extended European tour. He was educated largely in England (B.A., King's College, Cambridge, 1935) and served in the R.A.F. during World War II. He returned to Australia after the war and began to write seriously.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1974.
