Parsons is a city located in Tucker County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,463. It is the county seat of Tucker County6.

Geography Parsons is located at 39°5'45" North, 79°40'46" West (39.095721, -79.679465)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.1 km² (1.2 mi²). 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.17% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 1,463 people, 642 households, and 426 families residing in the city. The population density is 513.5/km² (1,332.5/mi²). There are 731 housing units at an average density of 256.6/km² (665.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.97% White, 0.00% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 0.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 642 households out of which 27.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% are non-families. 29.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $26,424, and the median income for a family is $31,645. Males have a median income of $22,331 versus $20,069 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,565. 18.7% of the population and 16.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 22.7% are under the age of 18 and 13.0% are 65 or older.
