He was born in Canterbury, England, the son of novelist and political activist, Harry Bloom[?]. Orlando was named after the leading character in the novel by Virginia Woolf and is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He made his film debut in 1997 in Wilde, opposite Stephen Fry. Shortly afterwards, he was seriously injured in a fall, and it was briefly feared that he would never walk again, but he made a complete recovery.
His first major role (he was still in drama school during the casting) was in the movie version of The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003), where he played Legolas. He has also had a part in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down (2002). His next movie, coming out July 9, is called "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl[?]."
